Opening a link

I can't decide if this is your add on or something else but here's my problem. I have an image set to link to an external url, open in a new window, save this but when I test it nothing happens. When I go to re-edit the page and click on the link, bang, pops open immediately. So I publish my edits, try again, same problem. Back into edit the page, ticked the open in fancybox option, publish my edits, link pops up promptly - I can click a link within the site and it changes, like a mini -iframe but this isn't what I want. Unticked the external window option and it still won't load up the external site

Follow up - had a brief success if I cleared the cache but that only works for one link at a time, I'd have to do it each time, not practical. I turned off caching for the page but it's no use. I also tried caching the page. Still no joy and the cache clearing has stopped working as well.
Don't bother- I scrapped the add-on, worked much simpler with an image in a content box that had a link, worked perfect every time
