Getting Facebook Feeds to work under APP Review Requirements

Permalink Browser Info Environment
For anyone having difficulty getting Facebook to approve the use of this feed plug-in, maybe this will help.

We were denied MANY times under several permission level options, and the one they eventually approved had been denied twice before. The key, i think, is persistence and data. Some of the FB reviewers don't really seem to know what they are doing.

1. Request the "Manage Pages" permission not the suggested "Public Page Content" permission which the plugin suggests. FB will suggest a few different possibilities as well and they will all likely be denied. "Manage Pages" was the level we were finally approved for and it works.
2. Include the "#10 Public Pages Content Access" error that easy social feed provides as proof that you need more than read_insights that FB will likely suggest (which will also be denied).
3. If your request is denied still, copy the reasoning why it was denied and the suggestions they give in response as part of your request. Letting FB see what they previously suggested got us to a point where they finally gave us the permission level we needed even though they denied that level in the past twice.

I hope that helps. We are now up and running... finally after a month and a half of trying...

(I may just jump ship and go to MySpace! woot!) :)

Feel free to remove this thread. I am giving up. After more than 15 approval attempts to get FB to approve my feed I am throwing in the towel. I'll check back to see if anyone else has luck because I really like this plug-in. If there were a way to make this plug-in work with "manage_pages" then I think I could get it approved.

I hope others have better luck.

Ok,

So I know have this plug-in working in three pages on my site. Here are some notes for anyone else having issues with FB approval. I hope it can help.

1. You don't need Page Public Content Access like the plug-in says.. Instead request "Manage Pages." You are highly unlikely to get PPCA approved and Manage Pages has worked for me.

2. Be patient. FB approvers denied me over and over again using methods I specifically told them not to use. A lot of them seem to not know that FB login isn't the center of the galaxy and will find any possible login link on your site and refuse you because it doesn't allow them to log in.

3. Get yourself a system user token for your pages. Use that token on your plug-in (You will need one for each page you have access to):
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/audience-network/reporting-api/...

4. Make sure to answer the following questions in the following ways:

Is a Facebook reviewer able to access or login to your app to verify you're using permissions or features according to Facebook Platform Policy?
No

Why isn't a Facebook reviewer able to access or install your app? Select the option(s) that best describe the functionality of your integration.
App doesn't use the Facebook Login dialog.

*** I also specified that this is a package social media plug-in for my Content Management System and that I do not have access to the code and cannot make changes to allow it ***.

5. Specify in your instructions again that there is no FB login.

6. Be prepared to make several screencast videos addressing any of their concerns (I made five revisions).

7. Specify in your written instructions what you also specified in the video. And again, tell them there is no FB login on your page. They will fall for it every time.

Hi! What does it mean "Manage Pages" permission? In Permissions and Features tab (Facebook Developers App dashboard) I have following permissions: pages_read_engagement, pages_manage_posts, pages_manage_metadata, pages_manage_engagement etc. Which one does this correspond? Sorry about my poor English. I hope you will understand my point.

You are correct. When I wrote how I was able to get the social feed to work, manage_pages was a working permission level. However, it appears that Facebook has since deprecated the function. It continues to work for me because they have not removed the feature completely for people who were already using it.

I am not the developer of this plug-in. He has walked away from the project. While I would love to be able to support you I cannot. I will get around to this as soon as I can, but the social feed is not currently on my list of priorities.

I would suggest finding another plug-in as an interim solution (or facebook's ugly feeds). If I find another working solution I will post it on the support page.
