Instagram images cropped to 170px height

Hi,
I found that the instagram images are cropped to 170px height. Why ? Instagram pictures have a square shape.
It's not solved with some easy css rules, since the image is set in the background (not defining the width and height for the element).
I already created a template for my needs, but you might want to look into this for other users.
