An add-on for displaying .webp images on a website with fallback to either .jpg or .png images for non compatible browsers (Safari prior to Big Sur OS and iOS prior to version 14). The ‘.webp’ image extension is a better way to deliver lightweight images for mobile devices to save download times and bandwidth usage.
"WebP is a modern image format that provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images on the web. Using WebP, webmasters and web developers can create smaller, richer images that make the web faster."
PageSpeed Insights gives the demo page a score of 98% for mobiles and 100% for desktops.
In its default state it replaces the built-in image block. Any combination/variation of options are available. Popup option uses css, no javascript.
Popup button will not show on small screens because popup image is smaller than image on page.
Over twenty variations.
You will need to go to ’Systems&Settings/Allowed File Types’ and add ‘webp’ to the list before you can upload .webp files.
NOTE: Because C5 doesn’t understand .webp image files you will not see a thumbnail or larger image on hover in the file manager. This should fixed in the next version of C5.
