Buggy and not very flexible

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi there,
Came across your add on and initially thought that this is ideal.

Unfortunately if I also have an image above the text in the "main" area then all the content disappears from that page. If I uninstall the package/block, the content does not disappear.

A few improvements would also be good:
• if there is an image, in the "main" area, have an option to "ignore images"

• If I have a heading in the "main" text, h1 for example, the teaser output would also render the heading as an h1. At the moment it styles it the same as the rest of the content.

Any help or insight would be great.
THanks

Hi,
Sorry that this has caused you problems. Can you please provide me with some more info so I can try to fix this:

* Is the content disappearing from the original page (with the content on it), or the other page that you have the Page List block on?

* Which version of Concrete5 are you using?

* Is this content an image block and then a Content block under that, or is it 1 content block with an image inside of it?

I don't think there will be a way to skip images as that is kind of the whole point of the template for most people using it (you can create a page type template that has another area above the "Main" area where you could put the images though).

As for the styling, you would have to make sure the same CSS styles are being applied on the page with the Page List block as on the page with the content itself -- there's no way to automatically bring this over from the page unless the theme template has the styles set up to work on both pages.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Jordanlev
Thanks for the response

1) yes it is disappearing from the original page
2)5.4.1
3)Image and Content are separate blocks
4)Ok thanks. The issue was that the image is a lot larger than the teaser area... I guess this solution is not for me (unless I insert a second block area and NOT name it Main)
5) Hmmm it seems that the h1 is being applied to the p tag....

Anyway, cannot double check as I have deleted my attempt. As it happens I came across your blog and this:
http://c5cookbook.com/recipes/make_a_blog...

This works alot better but the Truncate character limit does not work.... (I used option 1)

Thanks again for the response and your extensive tutorial in the above website post

D!!

Thanks again for your comments. I'm thinking of just pulling this from the marketplace actually because the only 2 responses I've gotten on it have both been that it caused problems with people's sites.

Glad you made it work for you eventually.

I am sure if someone with some nouse would be able to adapt your code. Seems a Shame to pull out your work... up to you I guess.

Did you have any comment in relation to being able to not truncate my teaser blog post... is it possible?

THanks jordanlev

Well, this addon was supposed to solve the truncation issue, but it's not working out so well :)

You're going to have to go through the code of this Page List Teasers addon and see how it's grabbing the excerpts and integrate that into your own code if you want that to work.

dont take it down its actually really useful and helps with blog view - worked fine for me so thanks for the good work. Fact is with this and the blog templates a blog tool seems pretty pointless to me (for basic blogging)

Thank you for your feedback -- I never did take this down because I looked at the number of downloads and it's actually quite high. Just goes to show you that you always hear from the people who need help, but rarely from people who are not having any problems (which I completely understand).

And I agree that for many simple blogging purposes, the built-in blog functionality works just fine (this addon was actually taken from an older version of the C5 built-in blog that I worked on a while ago, so they're related). But it's not pointless to have more full-featured blog tools because some people prefer to have something that "works like wordpress" (where you go to a separate dashboard to write new posts, instead of to the page itself like with C5), and also some people have more complicated requirements with things like workflow, approval dates, multiple levels of categories, etc.

Thanks again.
