How to remove tags & categories elements?

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Please excuse my ignorance but I've always struggled a little with Pro Blog.

1: I seem to have accidentally set it up correctly and it's working ok for me. However, the main view seems to look best when I don't apply a template to the block. There are just a couple of items I'd like to remove from view, namely 'tags' and 'categories'. Please see the screenshot attached to see the labels I'm talking about. Can somebody help please? I can't find where to do this anywhere.

2: Also, when I click one of the stories, it goes to a page that displays it fine, but doesn't include my footer. Does anyone know why this might be?

Thanks for your time, hope you can help!
