How to make the menu "wider" without using the "width" option

Hi c5 geeks :-)
I have some questions for this nice and clean menu.
Is there a way to make the spaces between the links in the toplevel wider in a horizontal style menu? If I use the "width" option all links gets the same space, eventhough some of them might only read "Info" and others are a lot longer like "Business options". Is there a way to make only the space between those bigger. It looks almost right when set to default as the boxes "follow" the text in terms of size, which is nice, but not quite there.
Also; is there a way to make the height alot smaller on the toplevel, and then have the boxes to follow the content on the 1. and 2. level? That way to menu can fit nicely in the design from the designer.

I am not very familiar with css, so examples like these help me a lot.
What about if I want to make the linkarea much smaller in the height. But ONLY toplevel (the drop down linkareas/boxes/whatever should just be determined by the text and how much space this takes up - for instances if the text takes up 2 lines instead of just one.)
Does this make sense? It is a bit tricky to explain.
Would you be interested in helping us with some of these changes for a certain amount?
We are a team of designers and salesmen mostly, so we are quite a bit short of coders who know their html/css.. :-)
